A good crib room does more than give your crew a table to eat at. It’s where they get out of the heat, fill in paperwork, charge radios and phones, wash their hands and take a proper break. Choose the wrong unit and you’ll feel it every day: people squeezed around a table, a generator running flat out, or a toilet queue on a 30-person site.
At MoCrib we see it from both sides. We were born out of Rollers Australia, which has spent more than 27 years in civil construction, so we know what a hard day on site looks like. Here are the five questions we ask every customer before recommending a trailer, then a quick guide to which model suits which job.
1. How many people need to use it at once?
Crew size is the first filter, and it’s easy to underestimate. Count the people who will take a break at the same time, not just your core team. Subcontractors, traffic controllers and visiting supervisors all add up.
As a rough guide across the MoCrib fleet:
6–8 people: MTE, MT or the solar-powered MTLS
8–10 people with a dedicated office: MTELO
10–12 people: MTEL
12–14 people: MT1 or MT2
On bigger sites, two smaller units spread across the work area can beat one large one. Crews don’t waste time walking, and if one unit has to move, the other is still there.
2. What toilet facilities does your site need?
Toilets are often the deciding factor. Every MoCrib crib room except the MT includes a toilet with handwashing facilities. The difference is how many, and how they’re set up:
- MTE, MTEL, MTELO, MTLS and MT1 each include one toilet with a handwash.
- MT2 has the same footprint as the MT1 but splits the amenities into separate female and male toilets, which gives your crew more privacy and convenience on larger, mixed crews.
- MTETT4 is a dedicated toilet trailer with four spacious toilet units on one chassis. It’s a cost-effective way to cover a big site, and we can build it with more or fewer toilets, or reorient the cubicles to suit your layout.
We can also organise toilet pump-outs and cleaning, so that’s one less thing for your site manager to chase.
3. Where is your power coming from?
Power decides how comfortable the unit is and how much it costs to run each day.
Generator-powered units. The MT, MT1 and MT2 have a built-in Kubota 6kVA diesel generator backed by solar panels and a battery bank, so they keep running through long shifts. The MTE, MTEL and MTELO come with a petrol or diesel generator, and you can link additional generators for higher output.
Solar-first units. The MTLS is our dedicated solar-powered crib room, with 1,900 W of solar and 15 kWh of battery storage. Generator use drops sharply, which means lower fuel costs, a quieter site and fewer emissions. It’s a strong fit for environmentally sensitive areas, sites near homes, and projects where refuelling is a hassle.
Heading somewhere remote? Ask about additional solar. It’s an option on most of the range.
4. Does your supervisor need an office?
Some sites need a dedicated space for paperwork, plans and site documents. People eating lunch at the same table as the permit folder isn’t ideal.
That’s why we built the MTELO. It has the same external dimensions as the MTEL, but the inside is reconfigured to include a built-in office with a sliding window through to the main room, so the overseer can work separately and still stay connected to the crew. Built-in offices are also an option on the MTE and MTEL.
Every unit includes document storage and a whiteboard, and you can add extra storage or whiteboards if your site runs heavy on paperwork.
5. How will you move it, and how often?
This is where MoCrib differs from most site accommodation suppliers. Every MoCrib unit is trailer-mounted and towable. You can mobilise it yourself with a suitably rated fleet vehicle, move it as the work front advances, or shift it to the next project, all without waiting on a third-party transport booking.
If your crew drives standard utes, the MTE weighs under 2 tonnes and can be towed by most vehicles. The MTEL, MTELO, MT and MTLS are also towable by most vehicles. Prefer not to tow it yourself? We offer delivery and setup across the range.
What comes standard
Whichever model you choose, MoCrib crib rooms are built for harsh Australian conditions and share a solid core specification, including:
- Marine-glued, termite-treated ply floors
- Thermally insulated walls and doors
- Tinted safety glass
- Reverse-cycle air conditioning
- First aid facilities and an emergency eyewash station
- Fire extinguisher and fire blanket
- Microwave, 240 V power points, 12 V sockets and USB charging
- Internal and external lighting
- UHF radio, dining table and whiteboard
All units are designed, built and supplied to meet Australian structural, health and safety standards. Your crew gets a clean, comfortable space that also supports your site’s compliance requirements.
Hire, buy or build?
Once you know which unit you need, the next question is how you want to pay for it. MoCrib is one of the few suppliers that offers all three options under one roof.
- Hire suits short projects, peaks in crew numbers, or when you want to try a model before you commit.
- Buy suits contractors who move from job to job and want to own an asset they can use across multiple sites.
- Custom build suits operations with a specific layout, feature set or compliance requirement. Our team works with you through a collaborative design phase before fabrication starts, and you own and operate the finished trailer. We can also build skid-mounted units and specialised truck bodies, and refurbish existing trailers. See Custom Build.
Whichever option you choose, our mobile service support keeps your units running for the life of the project, whether they’re hired or owned.
